Who Am I?
I’m Emil Mogensen (b. 1997), a photojournalist based in Aarhus, Denmark. With a background in fine art photography, I’m instinctively drawn to the aesthetic potential in documentary storytelling. I believe that visual presence can draw people in and create space for deeper engagement with a story.
I’m particularly interested in the quieter stories that do not demand attention but emerge through trust, patience, and close collaboration. My work is driven by a desire to understand people, environments, and motivations, and to give a voice to those who are not always heard. I see photojournalism as a way of exploring the complexity and diversity of people’s lives and the many ways they unfold.
Having lived with OCD since my childhood, I feel a strong connection to people who face or have faced challenges, yet still find ways to move forward. It has given me a deeper understanding of what people go through, and it shapes the way I meet others with sensitivity, patience, and respect.
I see it as a privilege to be invited into people’s lives. It is important to me that those I photograph can recognize themselves in the work, and that the process is built on mutual respect and honesty. At the same time, I aim to gently challenge the way they see themselves, allowing them to experience their own story through another perspective.
